Head of Jane Austen College Sixth Form, Rachel Barker said:
“Watching our sixth form students receive their A-Level results today has been incredibly moving. I’ve had the privilege of supporting each of them through their unique journeys—through challenges, triumphs, and everything in between. These results are a reflection of their perseverance and spirit, and I couldn’t be prouder. They leave us not only with excellent qualifications, but as confident, capable young people ready to take on the world."
After two years marked by upheaval, 5:30am alarms, and a cross-county bus commute, Alex Lincoln is celebrating standout KS5 results and a confirmed place at the University of Cambridge to read Philosophy at Gonville & Caius College.
Alex achieved A* grades in English Literature and Philosophy, and an A in History. His journey has been anything but straightforward. Alex began his sixth-form studies at Sir Isaac Newton East in Great Yarmouth following time at East Point Academy in Lowestoft. When Sir Isaac Newton East closed last year, he suddenly found himself without a sixth form. As part of the Inspiration Trust, Alex was offered a place at Jane Austen College.
That offer came with a logistical challenge. To make the daily trip from Lowestoft to Norwich, Alex set his alarm for 5:30 every morning to catch the bus and get to lessons on time. The move also required him to pivot some of his module choices to fit the courses available at Jane Austen College, a disruption that would have shaken many students in the final stretch.
Alex was quick to credit those around him. He thanked his teachers for their support, the staff and pupils at Jane Austen College for being so welcoming, and the Inspiration Trust for funding his transport, which made the demanding routine possible.
With results in hand and a Cambridge place secured, Alex says he’s excited to take the next step in Philosophy, a subject he’s pursued with exceptional focus despite the hurdles. His story stands out on results day as a reminder that perseverance, community support, and a willingness to adapt can turn a disrupted sixth-form experience into a springboard to one of the world’s leading universities.
